SUMMARY:UT Dallas PM Symposium 2022 speaker
DESCRIPTION:Knowledge Café: The Challenge of Disruption\, Knowledge Revolution\, Application and Agility \nAt the 2017 PMI North America Conference\, 71% of attendees were 45 years and older; 12% were 18-35 years old. By 2030\, 76 million baby boomers will retire. Brain drains? A study by the Education Advisory Board suggests that millennials will job-hop up to 20 times in their career. For the first time in our lifetime\, five generations interface in the project management space! When we lose critical business/project knowledge\, we will be on the losing side of the next disruption—a perfect storm. Human knowledge is required for machine learning. \nIn today’s knowledge economy\, more than ever\, knowledge is the new and most important factor of production—the most significant currency in our project-driven world. Most knowledge or experience becomes outdated within 2-5 years. Hello\, immersing oneself in new technologies is like running as fast as possible to stay in the same place without capturing\, sharing\, and retaining enduring wisdom that can never be obsolete. \nThe Knowledge Café (Café)\, a Knowledge Management (KM) technique is needed now because there is currently an absence of simple (agile)\, conversational\, theoretical\, and collaborative space. The lack of such an ecosystem by which all generations of knowledge workers can rendezvous\, impart\, share critical business knowledge\, and build deep smarts is found severely wanting. The solution is as simple as a corner café\, i.e.\, an unstructured and interactive system for capturing\, sharing\, and rejuvenating knowledge. The session will unravel the trend\, urgency\, methods\, and efficacy of KM\, in turn\, creating new knowledge and innovation. \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nIdentify the trends\, urgency\, value\, techniques\, and how-to of knowledge management—the new comparative advantage for high-performing agile organizations\nStrategies for creating a knowledge management culture in your business environment and how to develop a knowledge café for your project teams\nStir your curiosity for knowledge-sharing\, new knowledge\, and innovation

SUMMARY:University of Idaho\, Black Engineering Students Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Presentation Title: Help! Managing Projects and Stakeholders from Hell. \nSession Abstract \nI make one prediction: the projects and programs of tomorrow will be more complex and complicated\, not necessarily because of the dearth of the technical know-how\, acumen\, or intellectual acuity of the engineer-project manager\, but because of the complexity that people bring to the project management space. Can’t stand the fire; better get out of the kitchen! Doubtless\, system interactions\, uncertainties\, ambiguities\, and disruptions from technological innovations are often responsible for project complexities\, but human behaviors are the chief culprit. Problematic and arduous projects are mainly the offspring of the monkey hands humans bring to the project environment. \nIn this interactive and action-packed presentation\, participants will learn how to effectively engage difficult stakeholders in complex and complicated projects\, hostile\, and politically charged environments\, and still\, have fun managing them. You’ll receive the ruggedization to face any project out there. We shall explore principles that are based on successful\, real-life projects\, using some of the best research in persuasion science\, leadership\, and management. We shall focus on practical applications—people\, processes\, politics\, and project purpose\, including continuous buy-in principles\, “Gratitude Altitude\,” personal Net Performance Score (pNPS)\, “Pre-assignment @ charter” and shared ownership\, logic-politics\, managing up\, participatory design principles\, and more. \nLearning Outcomes: \nAt the conclusion of this workshop\, participants will be able to \n  \n\nExplore the winning qualities of an engineer-project manager that will enable you to manage any complex and complicated projects in any environment like a pro!\n Identify and define how a high personal Net Promoter Score can distinguish you as a superior leader in a politically charged environment\n identify continuous buy-in principles to be used as tools for managing complicated projects and stakeholders.\n\nTakeaways: \n\nSimple strategies for navigating complicated projects and people\nStir your curiosity about managing projects and stakeholders from hell\nA lot of practical tools ready to be implemented
