In this session, I shall chronicle a story of how I gate-crashed onto a book deal after I self-published my first book and the difference between the two. Which method is easier, and which one pays the most? My first book was self-published, but I secured a contract for my second management book. Successful, The Knowledge Café, released on July 6. How did it happen? Why did I aspire to get published? I would say it was serendipitous, and sincerely, I have one driver—to make a difference. My research paper was accepted by a global organization. I was invited to speak at their global conference. I threw in the sink towel into the process. My expectation was that that speech lunches me into the world. Unfortunately, no gig came out of that great performance, save that I got a book contract. I’ll share “lessons learning,” how I positioned myself, and why miracles happen at the intersection of connected minds. There are a few secrets of marketing I have learned. Why do publishers look for some, and everyone looks for them? I’ll cut through the clutter and share with you the fallacies I discovered, presumptions, realities, and myths of a new author trying to carve out space for him or herself.
